It was the pride and joy of a very good friend who owned it for the last 42 years of its 44 year life. Sadly he passed away last year and his wife has now asked me to advertise the car for her.
I have driven the car a few times, today to the local garage for an MOT test although the car is of course classed as Historic and thus does not require payment for road tax or MOT test. Insurance should be available at very competitive rates from the likes of Lancaster , Footman James and other insurance companies.
The car has only covered 66,000 miles and looking at MOT history its obvious mileage was sometimes only 500 miles in a year. Alex cherished the car and no expense was spared to keep it looking pristine , and this shows in the bodywork condition . Underneath is equally good and the MOT tester remarked how structurally sound the car was underneath .
Interior is in good condition with no damage to seats or fittings. For me, the small steering wheel is not ideal and my choice would be a nice wood rim item, but as its not my car , what you see is what was always on the car.
The engine starts readily and pulls well with the typical MGB exhaust note. Oil pressure is good when the car is warmed up and water temperature is steady too. Gearbox is excellent and overdrive works as it should on 3rd and 4th gear.
I am told by Alexs wife there are folders full of history of the car and its maintenance over the years.
Asking price reflects the cars superb condition , ( not concours but could easily be made up to that level ), patina and ownership history, Alex being only the second owner for the last 42 years.
